* The Vault Party originally began as a sit down dinner that took place in the Teller's Vault Room on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. Hosted by Dave Sanders and Katy Judd, the dinner included about 20-25 friends all hoping to take refuge from the mass crowd that would inevitably build up outside the Tellers Vault Room. After a couple of years, this dinner became tradition. After about four years, it became legend. And now, the "Vault Party" is the mass crowd.
* Among the many celebrities that have entered the Vault Room door (Natalie Portman, Regis, Andy Roddick, Gallagher, Optimus Prime, etc) none will be as memorable as Shakira. Before she was a worldwide singing sensation, she was a Vault Party regular. Many believe that her song entitled "En La Cámara Acorazada" (In the Vault) was actually a tribute to the Vault Party.
* The World's largest vault door is located in Ohio at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Discontinued in 1997, the 100 ton vault door remains intact for posterity.
* Cupid's arrow has struck many guests who have passed through on Vault Wednesday. Quite a few couples have either become engaged or have met for the first time at the annual Vault Party. Most notorious, were the famous duo.......Bonnie and Clyde who got engaged while robbing the vault during the days when Teller's was still a bank.
* Although there is no record of what was originally served on Thanksgiving, it has been speculated that wild geese or duck was in fact the main course - not turkey. Historians also believe that Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls were among the many appetizers served during the original feast........with a side of ranch dressing.
* At one time the turkey and the bald eagle were in the running to be the national symbol of the United States.
* Traditionally, the "Turkey Trot", one of the oldest races in the country, has been held the morning after Vault Wednesday. Many of it's participants find themselves cursing the Vault Party (and its host) while competing in this 10k Thanksgiving Day race.
